As we emerge from the Chihuahuan Desert and cross into southwest Texas, the landscape scrambles and spreads through a once and sometimes river southwest of Fort Stockton, deeply etching its abstract fractal pattern in the earth beneath us.

You get to see the most amazing sights! What fascinates me here in addition to the topography is the presence of so many roads leading to little clearings. What are they?

I believe that the small roads are access roads to oil wells that are in the cleared areas.
