Trapping the Sun
As the sun sets over western Colorado, a cloud deck divides the sky, creating two worlds…Above, we witness a typical sunset, but beneath the clouds, the sunlight comes to rest on the western faces of the Rockies and streams through isolated gaps in the mountaintops. Where the suns breaks through, the clouds are illuminated from beneath as if the light were trapped by the rocks, radiating warmth and light as it makes its gradual escape back into the heavens.
The shape of the clouds makes it look like it is moving, with the burning orange hues sandwiched between stormy grey and pale white puffs. Great shot.
